Max wasn’t prepared for the force of her body flying into
his. He caught her in both arms and was about to get caught up in the scent and
feel of her when he came to his senses and set her bare feet on the ground.
“You need to stop doing
that.” He gazed down at her with a weak smile he hoped would send the right
message.
“Oh, sorry,” she said
and stepped back, leaving him cold and longing for the feel of satin sliding
through his fingers. “I’m so relieved I won’t have to be here alone. Where do
you want to sleep?”
Had she really asked
that? Max clasped his hands behind his back in an at-ease position to keep
himself from touching her again. He stood tall, met her questioning green eyes
and asked point blank, “Where would you like me to sleep?” Her eyes widened and
both hands twisted around the yarn of the afghan as she pulled it tighter.
“I-I meant that I can
sleep in Bella’s room if you’d like to take my bed.” Her innocence was like a
beacon and he felt less than a gentleman for the dark and sensual thoughts
exploding in his mind.
“Be careful, Chelsea.” His voice was
soft in the silence of the room, but carried with it a warning that he wouldn’t
remain a gentleman for long.

cadet, a soon to be college freshman and a teenage daughter who's involved in
