Max wasn’t prepared for the force of her body flying into his. He caught her in both arms and was about to get caught up in the scent and feel of her when he came to his senses and set her bare feet on the ground.
“You need to stop doing that.” He gazed down at her with a weak smile he hoped would send the right message.
“Oh, sorry,” she said and stepped back, leaving him cold and longing for the feel of satin sliding through his fingers. “I’m so relieved I won’t have to be here alone. Where do you want to sleep?”
Had she really asked that? Max clasped his hands behind his back in an at-ease position to keep himself from touching her again. He stood tall, met her questioning green eyes and asked point blank, “Where would you like me to sleep?” Her eyes widened and both hands twisted around the yarn of the afghan as she pulled it tighter.
“I-I meant that I can sleep in Bella’s room if you’d like to take my bed.” Her innocence was like a beacon and he felt less than a gentleman for the dark and sensual thoughts exploding in his mind.
“Be careful, Chelsea.” His voice was soft in the silence of the room, but carried with it a warning that he wouldn’t remain a gentleman for long.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
I live in upstate New York with my very own alpha-male and a loveable Labrador who thinks he's the fourth child! Proud mom of an Army ROTC cadet, a soon to be college freshman and a teenage daughter who's involved in everything, there's never a dull moment in our busy household.
I'm a firm believer in love at first sight, second chances and creating your own destiny. Isn't that what romance is all about? Being a hopeless romantic helps me write my touching, emotional and heartfelt romances.
I also write Gossip Girl fan-fiction under the name Kyra Steele. You can find Kyra through Amazon's Kindle Worlds.
When I'm not writing, I enjoy a good glass of wine and getting lost in a book. I also love cross-country skiing and ice-skating (although I admit to not having done either in years!) hiking, anything crafty, and competitive family game nights (scrabble of course)!
